Nor are we talking the "Wow! How did that happen?-It's-gotta-be-a-miracle!" kind of miracle. No, no, no. At the risk of sounding redundant, we're talking real miracles here!
But, Dr. Adam Bell is surely not confused. Oh no. As Chief Investigator, he knows the difference only too well. After all, 'miracles' are his official business at the Bureau of Scientific Scepticism (B.O.S.S.), and his good nature and intellectual curiosity soon cause him to delve more deeply than required into the anatomy and character of miracles - all in keeping with the bureau's secret agenda. This happens not a moment too soon as it turns out, when without warning his own dire need for a miracle transforms his usual impartial, objective, routine work with the federal government bureau into an inordinately personal, life-and-death chase. Adam is also, of necessity, himself inherently transformed from the quiet, plodding, somewhat hesitating investigator, unused to police work, into a man on a mission, a father-to-be with a cause, where time is of the essence, and there's no room for error... About the Author
Eliot H. Bailey was born on Wednesday August 10th 1983 at 3 a.m. on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia - an island that has produced two Nobel laureates. His parents, both educators, have devoted their lives to teaching the arts. Eliot was named after T.S. Eliot - "one 'l', one 't'" - as he was wont, from the tender age of eighteen months, to inform all and sundry who might ask his name. Eliot was a curious child who started talking when he was about ten months. As a young boy, he asked questions galore and spouted creative ideas. Being British (as well as St Lucian), he would spend his summers back in his father's homeland of England visiting family and, in his teens, chose to live there on his own for a year. It was during this time that he was moved to chronicling his days and jotting down his thoughts on life and the parade of characters that crossed his path. Much of this writing was done on the spur of the moment as he sat in train stations or on park benches.

John Greenleaf Whittier (December 17, 1807 – September 7, 1892) was an influential American Quaker poet and ardent advocate of the abolition of slavery in the United States. He is usually listed as one of the Fireside Poets. Whittier was strongly influenced by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Highly regarded in his lifetime and for a period thereafter, he is now remembered for his poem Snow-Bound, and the words of the hymn Dear Lord and Father of Mankind, from his poem "The Brewing of Soma", frequently sung to the tune "Repton" by Hubert Parry.
Early life and work
John Greenleaf Whittier was born to John and Abigail (Hussey) at their rural homestead in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on December 17, 1807.[1] His middle name is thought to mean 'feuillevert' after his Huguenot forbears.[2] He grew up on the farm in a household with his parents, a brother and two sisters, a maternal aunt and paternal uncle, and a constant flow of visitors and hired hands for the farm. Their farm was not very profitable. There was only enough money to get by. Whittier himself was not cut out for hard farm labor and suffered from bad health and physical frailty his whole life. Although he received little formal education, he was an avid reader who studied his father’s six books on Quakerism until their teachings became the foundation of his ideology. Whittier was heavily influenced by the doctrines of his religion, particularly its stress on humanitarianism, compassion, and social responsibility.
Whittier was first introduced to poetry by a teacher. His sister sent his first poem, "The Exile's Departure", to the Newburyport Free Press without his permission and its editor, William Lloyd Garrison, published it on June 8, 1826.[3] As a boy, it was discovered that Whittier was color-blind when he was unable to see a difference between ripe and unripe strawberries.[4] Garrison as well as another local editor encouraged Whittier to attend the recently opened Haverhill Academy. To raise money to attend the school, Whittier became a shoemaker for a time, and a deal was made to pay part of his tuition with food from the family farm.[5] Before his second term, he earned money to cover tuition by serving as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in what is now Merrimac, Massachusetts.[6] He attended Haverhill Academy from 1827 to 1828 and completed a high school education in only two terms.
Garrison gave Whittier the job of editor of the National Philanthropist, a Boston-based temperance weekly. Shortly after a change in management, Garrison reassigned him as editor of the weekly American Manufacturer in Boston.[7] Whittier became an out-spoken critic of President Andrew Jackson, and by 1830 was editor of the prominent New England Weekly Review in Hartford, Connecticut, the most influential Whig journal in New England. Youth and education
Bryant was born on November 3, 1794,[1] in a log cabin near Cummington, Massachusetts; the home of his birth is today marked with a plaque.[2] He was the second son of Peter Bryant (b. Aug. 12, 1767, d. Mar. 20, 1820), a doctor and later a state legislator, and Sarah Snell (b. Dec. 4, 1768, d. May 6, 1847). The genealogies of both of his parents trace back to passengers on the Mayflower; his mother's to John Alden (b. 1599, d. 1687); his father's to Francis Cooke (b. 1577, d. 1663).
Bryant and his family moved to a new home when he was two years old. The William Cullen Bryant Homestead, his boyhood home, is now a museum. After just two years at Williams College, he studied law in Worthington and Bridgewater in Massachusetts, and he was admitted to the bar in 1815. He then began practicing law in nearby Plainfield, walking the seven miles from Cummington every day. On one of these walks, in December 1815, he noticed a single bird flying on the horizon; the sight moved him enough to write "To a Waterfowl".[3]
Bryant developed an interest in poetry early in life. Under his father's tutelage, he emulated Alexander Pope and other Neo-Classic British poets. "The Embargo", a savage attack on President Thomas Jefferson published in 1808, reflected Dr. Bryant's Federalist political views. The first edition quickly sold out — partly because of the publicity earned by the poet's young age — and a second, expanded edition, which included Bryant's translation of classical verse, was printed. The youth wrote little poetry while preparing to enter Williams College as a sophomore, but upon leaving Williams after a single year and then beginning to read law, he regenerated his passion for poetry through encounter with the English pre-Romantics and, particularly, William Wordsworth.
Poetry
Although "Thanatopsis", his most famous poem, has been said to date from 1811, it is more likely that Bryant began its composition in 1813, or even later[citation needed]. What is known about its publication is that his father took some pages of verse from his son's desk and submitted them, along with his own work, to the North American Review in 1817. Abbie Farwell Brown (August 21, 1871 – March 5, 1927)[1][2] was an American author.
Brown was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the first of two daughters of Benjamin F. Brown, a descendant of Isaac Allerton, and Clara Neal Brown, who contributed to The Youth's Companion. Her sister Ethel became an author and illustrator under the name Ann Underhill. Her family, for ten generations, had only resided in New England, and Brown herself spent her entire life in her family's Beacon Hill home.[2]
Brown was valedictorian of the Bowdoin School in 1886.[2][3] She then attended the Girls' Latin School, where she was friends with Josephine Preston Peabody. She was the driving force behind the newly created school newspaper, The Jabberwock, named by Brown after the poem by Lewis Carroll. They wrote to Carroll for permission to use the name and Carroll wrote back, wishing them "all success to the forthcoming magazine".[4][5] The school, now Boston Latin Academy, still publishes The Jabberwock. After graduating in 1891, she attended Radcliffe College, graduating in 1894.[1][2]
While at Girls' Latin School, she was contributing pieces to St. Nicholas Magazine, some illustrated by her sister. Starting in 1898, under the pen name Jean Neal she wrote articles for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. She also wrote a one-act comedy called Quits (1896) set at a women's college.[1][2]

Her first children's book, The Book of Saints and Friendly Beasts (1900) was inspired by her first trip abroad, specifically by the carved choir stalls in Chester Cathedral depicting the life of Saint Werburgh. The book retells Christian stories of the animal encounters of various saints. Brown would write other collections retelling old tales for a contemporary child audience. Her In the Days of Giants (1902) featured stories from Norse mythology and remained a standard text in libraries for several generations. Tales of the Red Children (1909), co-written with James MacIntosh Bell, featured Canadian Indian folklore.[1][2]
Original stories by Brown include The Lonesomest Doll (1901), The Flower Princess (1904), John of the Woods (1909), and The Lucky Stone (1914). She wrote several volumes of children's poetry, including A Pocketful of Posies (1901) and Fresh Posies (1908). Her books of adult poetry, including Heart of New England (1920) and The Silver Stair (1926), were less successful.[1][2]
Brown wrote song lyrics for the Progressive Music Series by Silver, Burdett and Co. She and composer Mabel Wheeler Daniels wrote the song "On the Trail", which became the official song of the Girl Scouts of the USA. Daniels set Brown's war poem "Peace with a Sword" to music and it was performed by the Handel and Haydn Society in 1917. Brown's only juvenile biography was of a composer, The Boyhood of Edward MacDowell (1924).[2]

There is no need here to enter a plea for story-telling. Its value in the home and in the school is assured. Miss Bryant, in her charming book, How to Tell Stories to Children, says, "Perhaps never, since the really old days, has story-telling so nearly reached a recognized level of dignity as a legitimate and general art of entertainment as now." And, in the guise of entertainment, the story is often the vehicle conveying to the child the wholesome moral lesson or the bit of desirable knowledge so necessary to his well-being at the time. Thus it has come to be recognized that the ability to tell a story well is an important part of the equipment of the parent or the teacher of little children.
The parent is often at a loss for fresh material. Sometimes he "makes up" a story, with but poor satisfaction to himself or his child. The teacher's difficulty is quite otherwise. She knows of many good stories, but these same stories are scattered through many books, and the practical difficulty of finding time in her already overcrowded days for frequent trips to the library is well-nigh insurmountable. The quest is indefinitely postponed, with the result that the stories are either crowded out altogether, or that the teacher repeats the few tales she has at hand month after month, and year after year, until all freshness and inspiration are gone from the story time.
The stories in the present collection are drawn from many nations and from widely differing sources. Folk tales, modern fairy tales, and myths have a generous showing; and there is added a new field as a source for stories. This is Real Life, in which children soon begin to take decided interest. Under this heading appear tales of child life, of child heroes, of adult heroes, and of animals.
Mr Herbert L. Willett, of the University of Chicago, has said: "It is not through formal instruction that a child receives his impulses toward virtue, honour and courtesy. It is rather from such appeal to the emotions as can be made most effectually through the telling of a story. The inculcation of a duty leaves him passionless and unmoved. The narrative of an experience in which that same virtue finds concrete embodiment fires him with the desire to try the same conduct for himself. Few children fail to make the immediate connection between the hero or heroine of the story and themselves."
Because of this great principle of imitation, a large number of the stories in this little volume have been chosen for their moral value. They present the virtues of persistence, faithfulness, truthfulness, honesty, generosity, loyalty to one's word, tender care of animals, and love of friends and family. If you’re reading this page, you probably have a goal you’d like to accomplish or plans you’d like to execute. You know you need a push but you may not be sure what kind of push you need. Or you may know what kind of push you need but not how to get it.
I recognize that feeling. I’ve felt it myself. It can be isolating and frustrating. It can also seem like it’s your fault that you need this push.
Yes it is your job to take the steps to fulfill your destiny but sometimes the day to day details of life can become overwhelming. As we get older, we begin to realize that while pursuing our dreams is important so is becoming a responsible adult.
You may find yourself with a job, family and household to run or take care of and those daily tasks take time.
In fact, they can take up all of your time without you realizing it. They’re all important. You can’t NOT do them. You don’t have that option.
What typically ends up happening in these situations is that we put ourselves on the back burner.
We sacrifice our need to pursue our dreams in favor of doing what is expected of us.
If possible, we honor our need for time to focus on ourselves to those moments when we’re not being called upon to handle daily tasks.
You Are Responsible For Your Success!
Ultimately YOU are the only one who has power over your life.
If you aren’t pursuing your goals because of someone else, you are essentially using that person as an excuse or a buffer. It’s always easier to place responsibility on someone else than yourself.
Stepping outside of your comfort zone isn’t easy.
You shouldn’t expect it to be easy. Be prepared to do some tough personal work. If you have goals to pursue but haven’t, it’s important that you figure out why and fix it. I’ve been where you are. In fact, I expect I’ll be here again.
The process of stepping outside of your comfort zone and pushing your limits is an ongoing one. It doesn’t really get any easier. It just becomes an integral part of personal growth.

Danelle’s story revolves around two teenage characters, Danelle and Marc. Marc just moved with his family from a Chicago suburb to this small “fishermen-own” town in Florida. The cluster of houses that Marc’s house is part of is called Ublock. This is the place where most of the action takes place. At first, Marc is unhappy about the prospect to live his life in this boring rural town. This feeling persists until he meets a beautiful girl named Danelle. Marc tries to approach the girl but she rejects his city boy “manners” or lack thereof. Things change to the better after the school starts. Danelle and Marc become very good friends. Their friendship and love that follows is agreed upon and even encouraged by their moms. Danelle appears to be an open and lovely character; she is very active and in love with her life and achievements. Marc is a little bit snooty, a city boy that looks at everything as being not worth worrying about. They like each other the way they are. Sadly, at the apex of their love, Danelle is diagnosed with leukemia. Danelle is depressed and terrified. Marc assures Danelle that he was going to be with her and help her pass through the difficult time of healing. Eventually, Danelle undergoes a successful bone marrow transplant. Her health seems to improve steadily on her way to full recovery. Short time though after showing sign of overall success, her recovery hits a snag. Danelle is aware of it: her strength and her weight loss make her think that there must be another serious cause to it. Doctor’s diagnostic is frightening; Danelle’s excessive use of medication to speed up her recovery damaged her kidneys. She need an urgent kidney transplant. Before leaving for a hospital in Boston to have her kidney transplant Danelle persuades her mom to let Marc have a sleep over. That night Danelle and Marc have sex. Danelle passes successfully the kidney implant surgery. During her convalescing period Danelle falls in love with the son of the surgeon. Marc founds all about Danelle’s betrayal when Danelle’s mom comes back unexpectedly and sells her house. Marc is profoundly distraught by Danelle’s betrayal and is “creeping his days” in profound disillusionment and lack of desire to live. Two days after the year graduation Marc receives a phone call from Danelle. She tells Marc that she is at the airport, and that she loves him and that she would be seen him in a couple of hours. Marc tells his mom that Danelle is coming back and that he is in love with her. Marc’s mom doesn’t understand what is happening. She is doubtful about Danelle’s sincerity and tries to persuade Marc not to take her back. When Danelle appears the romance story seems to become a hopeless melodrama. “People say that love gets stronger after passing through the fire of betrayal… That still has to be put to test…” Eventually, Marc’s mom desire to compromise and her compassion helped the two lovers, Danelle and Marc, get back to where they left off: being happy… [mehr]

A Trip on a Comet Value: The Sabbath Day “God is going to hear you talking about that Tommy and he won’t like it.” Steve told his best friend as they were going to school Monday morning. “Well I don’t get it. What is Sunday even good for anyway? I don’t get it. We go to church every Sunday but nobody knows why.
Maybe it’s just a bunch of goofy rules the church made up so why should we do it anyway?” Tommy said in a snotty way. Tommy really was a good boy. He loved God and his family and all those things but sometimes he just had questions and he wanted someone to tell him the truth. Lots of us are like that. “Tommy, be careful. If you keep asking those kinds of questions, well God can hear you.” Steve said but Tommy said “fine” and he meant it. He didn’t care if God did hear him. If God wanted to show him why Sunday was important, that would suit Tommy just fine. Tommy thought about it all day at school. As he walked out onto the playground after school, he noticed that all of a sudden, there were not any other kids around.
As he came around the corner to the bicycles racks, he stopped short. He faced the biggest pair of feet he ever saw. They had sandals and they together were so wide, he had to turn his head to see from one toe to the other. Slowly Tommy’s eyes followed up the massive legs to the edge of a huge white robe, on up the big body to a huge beaming face that was all white with a glow like it has a light bulb inside of it. Behind each shoulder, he saw the edges of a huge angel’s wing. “Hello Tommy, you ready to go?” The angel said with a deep voice that seemed to fill every inch of the air for miles around. “Who are you?” Tommy asked feeling it was a pretty good question. “I am Gabriel. I am the chief Angel of God. Are you ready to go find out why there is a Sunday?” Gabriel answered in a kind but firm voice. “Where are we going?” Tommy wanted to know. “You will see when we get there.” The angel answered. “How will we get there?” Tommy continued. “Well by comet of course. See?” And Gabriel gestured over to the swing sets where he had tied up to the jungle gym a steaming, flaming, very angry comet that didn’t like being tied up and it wanted to go right now. “Well I……….” Tommy hesitated but he didn’t have time to finish deciding because in a flash he was holding on for dear life.
The comet wasn’t tied to the jungle gym any more, it was streaking through space faster than ten rockets with fire and smoke streaming past as Tommy held on to part of the comet and Gabriel’s toe. He suddenly heard himself going “wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” but then he suddenly heard Gabriel going “wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” too. Who knew angels go “wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”? Shortly, they bumped into the Giants Kingdom and the wardrobe shrouded them broke down and they tripped and stumbled down to another world. Unfortunately, Donatella was captured by the giants to fulfil a ritual and in her stay in the Giants Kingdom, she unearthed another secret of her life that she was a popular ‘Violet’ of the famous Violet family. On the other hand, Kender met Atticus, who helped him know his true self but Kender never believed that he was the last surviving Green. Greens and Violets are believed to be the oldest of supernatural families. Andrew Harington's coincidental encounter with Kender and Dona was marvelous and mysterious. He took them to Wands town and soon they were surrounded by werewolves, vampires, witches and other foreign creatures. Slowly but surely the mountain of secrets started unfolding. Unpredicted visit of Cyril brought devastation to all the twelve famous towns including Wands. He seized the council, the powerhouse of all the towns with the help of his followers.
Though Dona saved her mother from a glass prison, she had to surrender herself to Cyril to save Kender’s sister’s life. While invading the nearby houses transporting food to the ‘New World’, Kender and Atticus were dragged out to Dummer’s Do by some unknown foresters. Atticus never stopped searching for his sister though he lost her at a tender age and the fact that her body was never found he would not accept his sister’s death. His mother used to narrate stories relatable to them every night after their dinner –
