What is Philosophy? Is it the exclusive domain of those who dream in abstract? Or is it the manifestation of the struggle of those who practice in material? Does it originate in the minds of professors like a Ganges flowing out from the hair-locks of "Lord" Shiva? Or is it rustic and puerile, evolving into maturity through the experiences of common men. I started writing philosophy without actually knowing that I was writing one. To start with, it was an outlet to project my frustration in the form of writings. Pretty often, it carried abuses hurled at none in particular, but at the system through its agents. But I don’t know when those ramblings started getting matured into Philosophy and all puerility and abuses purified themselves on the way – a Ganges doesn’t become pure by its origin but by the treatment people give to it on its way. In my book “Writings @ Ankur Mutreja”, I included a section on my personal philosophy and thought nobody would be interested in reading it. But, fortunately, I have found some kind-hearted people, who have given me their valuable feedback. I am reproducing my philosophy below by selecting those topics which have received positive feedback, albeit without prejudice to the philosophy presented by me in “Writings @ Ankur Mutreja”.The book is divided into three chapters. First chapter, which I have christened as Philosophy | General, starts with my principles on Privacy. There is no comprehensive law on privacy in India; therefore, there are no established privacy principles either. I formulated certain principles for self-help, which seem to have found resonance with many; therefore, they are reproduced in the book. The other topics included in the chapter are New Age Journalism, Terrorism, Internet, Jurisprudence, and Globalization. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my philosophical ideas on politics have found audience. I am a completely non-political person in the sense I am not attached to any political party; however, I do have a liberal perspective on politics. In the second chapter, i.e. Philosophy | Politics, I have discussed varied topics like Lokpal, Elections, Violence, Capitalism, Anarchism, Cash Transfers, Maoists, and Gandhism, with a liberal perspective.Finally, in a chapter entitled Philosophy | Relationships, I have plunged into a controversial arena of man-woman relationship. Though I claim to be discussing philosophy of man-woman relationship, but I think I am at best representing men unless I get substantial endorsement from women – which unfortunately I haven’t got till now. Wightman creates a universe of mirrors in his continuing poetic sequence Coincides Yon Latrine, though not mirrors as reflections so much as translations, with one part of a middle-justified poem responding to one or more other center-justified parts, prey to the same invisible gravity. There is no set procedure—this is an artist's logbook and follows the caprices of the days—but one half usually involves modified translations of writing by Wightman’s poetic and philosophical predecessors (Baudelaire, Horace, Jammu and St. Augustine among others), and the other half is a response which can take on any number of forms of address, including the minimal Creeley-esque lyric, the Longport stew, or, most distinctly, the spontaneously spiritual or religious affirmation, making him sound often like a latter-day Henry Vaughn or, with his prolixity, John Clare. Coincides Yon Latrine is a strategically random, though thematically coherent, selection from the ongoing project, a pollifilistic bouquet of sorts of what can be called word sculptures—concrete, they challenge the rectilinear rightness on more than four fronts (multiverse) — or even musical compositions: Wightman, an avid fan of Stockhausen, views all of his text works as scores to an aural, if not conventionally "musical," performance. In 2013 economic crisis is marked by systemic and structural contradictions, exploding inequality, ecological overshoot and the erosion of trust, democracy and community. Trillions were given to Wall Street banks to avert financial collapse on the ground of "too big to fail." Private losses morphed into public losses. Taxpayers shouldered the losses from financial speculation and unbounded deregulation. Government acted as the "errand boy for the banks" (Bill Moyers). Economic problems are systemic and structural, not psychological and motivational. Risk-takers and job-creators have been unmasked. Risk-managers turned out to be risk-producers. The system must be changed because the systrem leads to stagnant wages over 30 years, totally inadequate creation of family-wage jobs paying into social security. Our clientele system confuses public and private, ignores long-term necessities (e.g. universal health care, free or affordable education and rights of nature) in favor of profit maximization and shareholder interests. We face system (collective and political) problems since lobbyists write legislation, corporations are treated as persons, money is regarded as speech (the disastrous 2010 Supreme Court decision in Citizens United) and investment is confused with speculation. Financial investment eclipses real economy investment. Wall Street banks spend over $4 billion over 10 years for lobbying and campaign contributions. The myths of neoliberalism and shareholder value were and are the basis for the 2007-2008 financial crisis. The myths of the invisible hand (that self-interest leads to the public interest), corporate beneficence, money created out of thin air, the Enron-model, the Apple-Google model of billions in dummy corporations or tax havens, the investors-suing-states model and the myth of nature as a free good, external or sink must be deconstructed and abandoned. Cooperation and competition are not opposites but depend on one another. Education, health care, air waves, food, housing and information are public and must remain public. Otherwise they become privileges and we live in a plutocracy or 21st century feudalism. The time is right for alternative economics, reducing working hours, labor-intensive investment, person-related work, access not excess and enough not more. Unlike a chair, an idea can be shared by a whole people! The following articles by Swiss, Austrian and German critical economists could revitalize public debate and understanding. The present system is unsustainable and the future system is still being designed. Radical change is a necessity given the end of cheap oil, climate change and the need to redefine work, security, happiness and health. Only dead fish swim with the stream. You can make fish soup out of an aquarium but you can't make an aquarium out of fish soup.
