From the point of view of companies: - Companies should be legally required to produce their goods in a fair and carbon-neutral way. - This is necessary because consumers are not capable of making informed decisions about the global impact of their consumption due to their limited perception and socialization. - Companies have the power and resources to make sustainable production possible and should take responsibility for their impact on the environment. From a logical point of view: - Given that the global impact of consumption is a pressing issue, and that consumers are not capable of making informed decisions about it, it makes sense to shift the responsibility of sustainable production from consumers to companies. - Companies have the power and resources to make sustainable production possible, and should take responsibility for their impact on the environment. - Legally requiring companies to produce goods sustainably could help solve both social injustice and climate change issues in one stroke. Throughout history, trade has been driven by the desire to make a profit. As a result, importers and producers often prioritize their profits over social and environmental concerns. This has led to social injustice and environmental damage. While some consumers may want to make informed decisions, many are not equipped to fully understand the global impact of their actions. Therefore, I suggest that the responsibility for producing goods that are fair and environmentally sustainable should not be left to individual consumers. Instead, it should be mandated by laws and regulations that hold companies accountable for their production practices. This would ensure that products are produced in a way that benefits both society and the environment, without placing an unfair burden on consumers. By shifting the responsibility to producers and importers, we can make progress towards a more equitable and sustainable future. While individual actions are important, they cannot solve these complex issues on their own.
